I often get the question: “When is the best time to sail in Finland?”. Currently my personal favorite is August. Contrary to many southern European countries, the main holiday season in Finland is already gone in August and there is plenty of room in the marinas and adjacent services. The main downside is that some marinas already start to run down their services towards the end of the month.
Last year I was contacted from Canada with a request for suggestions for a sailing holiday in Finland. I recommended Jari Valvio and Barb and Kevin followed up on the recommendation and made it to Finland this August. The weather in August was absolutely fantastic by Finnish standards and seems Barb and Kevin enjoyed themselves. They kindly shared a few photos and a short commentary with me so here goes:
“My husband, Kevin, and I, had a fabulous time sailing in Finland’s western archipelago with Jari Valvio (seasnowlife.com/summer) at the end of August. We have a sailboat at Port Credit Yacht Club on Lake Ontario in Canada and wanted to experience sailing in Finland in an authentic way. This was perfect.
Kevin and I had time for 4-days of sailing to fit into our trip to Finland. We started and ended at Peterzens Marina near Kustavi. We had challenging conditions on the first day, with high winds and waves, and Jari handled the boat and the conditions with ease. The rest of the days were sunny with calm seas and good winds.
Jari took us to some beautiful places to moor the boat for the night and we always had a sauna to end the day. It was such a beautiful and memorable trip. Everyone we encountered was super friendly. We love Finland!”
Thank you Barb and Kevin for a wonderful story!
